🎵Now Playing: Muse - Black Holes and Revelations (2007) I haven’t listened to Muse for ages, and normally I wouldn’t stray far from Origin of Symmetry or Absolution but they headlined my first ever festival (Benicassim, 2007) on this tour so I have a soft spot for it. Opening the set …

Cultural Diet - July 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month, and I have certainly had my fill this month. July… just… disappeared? What happened? Where did it go? What did I do? I guess we’ll find out.
🎵Now Playing: Oasis - The Masterplan (1998) If you didn’t know, Oasis are back. Everyone I know who got tickets say it was the best gig of their lives. Anyway, this collection of B-Sides is probably their second best album. Manchester vibes in the area. Favourite Tracks: Acquiesce …
A Hawk in a Hall: The present life of man upon earth, O King, seems to me in comparison with that time which is unknown to us like the swift flight of a sparrow through the mead-hall where you sit at supper in winter, with your Ealdormen and thanes, while the fire blazes in the midst and the hall is warmed, but the …

You've Got Mail: Email is a peculiar thing. If you’re a millennial like me, you remember the hotmail email we got in our teens (sk8rboi13 or the equivalent). From hotmail, I had an AOL account. From AOL I, like almost everyone on earth, got a Gmail account. And that’s been it for the last decade or so. …

OK, so I haven’t quite ditched gmail yet, but we have made a start: you can now send an email to hello@danielsavage.uk! I’ll read it, I’ll reply to it, we’ll become lifelong friends. See my Contact page for ideas of what to include in your message.
This 🤏 close to ditching gmail. Front runner is Proton mail with my custom domain but potentially Migadu. Hey mail looks great but I want multiple addresses.
Rice Cakes: An unusual rice cake eating event in Sheffield is celebrated as a creative commentary on consumerism and the entertainment culture.
Thinking of finally abandoning my gmail and moving to Proton Mail. Hey Mail could be another option - although, maybe privacy should be the most important thing. Anyone have any recommendations?
🎵Now Playing: Gwenno - Utopia (2025) Saw her live twice this year, and both time she was unaccompanied on the piano. Great, but when you hear the songs in full production they soar in a different way. This new album is great. Favourite Tracks: Dancing On Volcanoes Utopia Y Gath 73

Cultural Diet - June 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month, and I have certainly had my fill this month. Glastonbury being the highlight of course. I’m sorry but this is a Glasto fan account.
Fontaines D.C at the weekend were great, but with that and Glastonbury I’ve had enough fun for the forseeable. Next up, planning and finalising my trip around Canada 🍁
Last minute trip to London today. Because Glasto wasn’t enough apparently…
Glastonbury 2025: Glastonbury - you’re hard work but you never disappoint. My 6th time at the greatest place on earth, and the reason to have hope in humanity. 🎵Now Playing: Gwenno @ Glastonbury (2025) Yes, I’m back from Glasto. I’ve just about recovered, my mind and body are about 75% but my soul is still flying free. I’m back at work and thought I would relive the first act I saw while I try to remember exactly what it is I do. This …
I’m sad, can’t speak and everything hurts. Worth it.
Out of office is on. Alarm set for 4am. It’s happening.

A perk of living in an “upside down” house is that my bedroom is now the coldest room and I can get a decent nights sleep in the heat.
Silver How: Behold! I have returned from a hike. I was in the Lake District this weekend. My parents were there on holiday for the week, and my brother, sister-in-law, and six-month-old niece were also visiting. Savages assemble. 🎵Now Playing: Foals @ Glastonbury (2022) Glastonbury returned in 2022 after a two-year hiatus (for some reason?? I can’t remember why?) and Foals on the Other Stage was a great moment for the indie Millennials to dust off their dance moves. A great career-spanning set from one of the …

🎵Now Playing: Tame Impala - Glastonbury (2019) Another old setlist in the run up. This time from Australia’s Tame Impala who put on a brilliant performance on the Other Stage (we chose him instead of Stormzy’s Pyramid set). From what I can remember, a lot of smoke, a lot of lazers, a …

🎵Now Playing: Wolf Alice - My Love is Cool (2015) There’s a new album on the way, and they’re on my list to catch at Glastonbury so I’m going back through the old stuff. It’s good! I played a lot of this album when I was DJing in bars on a Friday afternoons. Sadly I am not …

Cultural Diet - May 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month. May was lovely. Sunshine! Wedding (not mine)! Birthday (mine)!
Yes, I turned 37 and I don’t understand how we got here so soon. But I did what everyone hurtling towards the grave does - I did my first parkrun and joined Mensa.
The Ballad of Wallis Island: I went to the cinema for my birthday to see The Ballad of Wallis Island, and what a treat it was. I’ve adored Tim Key’s comedy for years. His live shows are works of genius, packed with surrealism and pathos. Whether it’s his radio shows, his appearances on Taskmaster, or his role as Sidekick Simon …

🎵Now Playing: Bat for Lashes - Two Suns (2009) Bat for Lashes, I’ve not heard that name in years. But this is a stunning album with a song called Daniel that I can pretend is about me. Natasha Khan’s soaring vocals really sell her theatrical indie pop landscape. Favourite Tracks: …
Was at a wedding this weekend so just caught up with the last Match of the Day of the season. Gary Linekar is one of the good guys and he’ll be missed. The montage at the end was something special too. The BBC isn’t perfect but it is essential to British life and must be protected.
The outfit, the commentary, the way she treats it like the dvd sale bin at Woolworths. This Natasha Lyonne video is perfect.

🎵Now Playing: Toots & The Maytals - Funky Kingston (1973) Continuing with the reggae theme we move from one legend to another in Toots and his Maytals. I was lucky enough to see them play at midnight on the Truth Stage in Shangri-La at Glastonbury 2017 and they were still going strong. This is …
🎵Now Playing: Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus (1977) It is hot and ☀️ in the UK this week and so what else, but reggae. I thought I’d start with Bob and move onwards from there. I don’t think I’ve heard this album in it’s entirety before. Great. Favourite Tracks: …

Peel Park. 📍 First festival of the year and it’s down the road.
It is a sad, angry, unpleasant island - but at least we have a new series of Taskmaster.
First ice cream of the year🍦☀️
Trying the Glastonbury resale. The two green bars taunt me again.
Work is currently at the stage where I need background noise rather than full albums. But Sault just released another album out of the blue (that seemed to die and resurrect over the Easter weekend). I intend to listen to all 10 again over the next week or two.

Spending my Saturday installed Arch Linux on an old laptop just to have something to tinker with and scratch the Linux itch I’ve had for a while. Normally I would be in town on my 2nd pint.
A grey, wet Easter Friday bank holiday? I guess it’s time for Lord of the Rings.
I can’t help but think we should use money to help solve world hunger rather than build rockets to blast Katy Perry into space — but that’s clearly just me, a non-billionaire, failing to grasp how important it is to blast Katy Perry into space with my poor, woke, non-billionaire mind. 🎵Now Playing: The Maccabees - Given to the Wild (2012) The Maccabees are also back. No new music just yet but I managed to grab tickets to one of their upcoming Manchester shows. I think of all the indie-adjacent bands of my youth, The Maccabees are my favourite. Sorry, Bloc Party. I can’t …
PULP are back! With new music! And it’s fucking great!
🎵Now Playing: Snapped Ankles - Hard Times Furious Dancing (2025) The lead single Raoul was an instant hit for me. The rest of the new songs continue in that vein - weird, thumping, agitating- the album title speaks for itself. Favourite Tracks: Pay The Rent Raoul Bai Lan
🎵Now Playing: Blondie @ Glastonbury (2023) I make a playlist of most of the gigs I attend, to try and recapture those moments. With the sad news that Blondie’s drummer Clem Burke has passed away, I thought I’d listen to the set list from the only time I saw them live, a sunny …

The Dark Knight, 2008 - ★★★★★: Watched on Sunday April 6, 2025.

A Sober 2025: March Update: After a dry Jan and an accidentally wet Feb, I got back to winning ways in March. 30/31 days without a drink, and that one time an almost unavoidable Stag/Hen party. It’s been a good month, and I’m feeling the benefits both in my head and in my wallet. Looking at the whole year I’m …
🎵Now Playing: Tom Vek - We Have Sound (2005) This album is exactly the kind of sloppy indie/electronic music I need on a sunny Friday afternoon. Weekend ahoy! Favourite Tracks: C-C (You Set The Fire In Me) A Little Word In Your Ear Cover Nothing But Green Lights
Cultural Diet - March 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month. March has marched on out, but spring is here and summer is on the way. I managed to get my new office space decorated (but the cat isn’t very happy about it).
Learned how to wire a light fitting, and the new office/guest room is pretty much done. Last bit to build - the desk.
Remembering to Play:
I read this article A Project of One’s Own by Paul Graham and really related to it. I’m always giving myself little projects, usually to scratch the creative itch my brain requires.
Just watched the Severance finale. Loved it. Please don’t make us wait years for S3. 📺
🎵Now Playing: SBTRKT - SBTRKT (2011) I needed some momentum so I could fit all my work in this afternoon. This provided that momentum. Tunes. Favourite Tracks: Hold On Wildfire Pharaohs Never Never Living Like I Do
Having a room decorated over the weekend. I’ve had to empty it and so the rest of the house is a complete mess. It’s worth it. It’s worth it. It’s worth it.
Then & Now:
I went back to my old university at the weekend. It was about 9 years since I had last visited and 19 (💀) since I turned up as a Fresher. There was an Old Boys football match, and a few of us from my time there were turning up.
🎵Now Playing: Divorce - Drive to Goldenhammer (2025) I assume I heard this band on 6Music sometime, but I saw this album in my “to-listen” pile and for this chilly, sunny, Salford day it was pretty perfect from the get-go. They play Manchester in April so I’ll definitely be …
🎵Now Playing: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Up from Below (2009) Their tiny desk concert found its way on one of my feeds and I remembered how great this album is. 2009 is frighteningly becoming ancient history. Favourite Tracks: 40 Day Daydream Jangling Carries on Home Desert Song
🎵Now Playing: Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1994) They might be coming to an end, but Wu-Tang will live forever. The beats are glorious, the rhymes victorious. It’s a classic for a reason. Favourite Tracks: Shame on a N**a Can It Be All So Simple Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t …
It really is amazing what a bit of 🌞 does for the old noggin, a thoroughly productive weekend.
I always feel a bit smug about not having kids, but never more than on World Book Day.
Cultural Diet - February 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month. February was quite the month for me. For personal reasons as well as feeling like the year has really taken off. Time is moving so fast, and there’s a lot I want to experience. Bring on spring!
Couch to 5k has begun (who even am I anymore).

🎵Now Playing: Sam Fender - People Watching (2025) I missed his standout Glastonbury set in 2022 which I imagine will turn him into a future headliner. This new album sounds very accomplished and it’s vital to have working class voices in the mainstream. For all the good, I still think …

A Sober 2025: Feb Update:
My theme for 2025 was meant to be all about my health, with a focus on improving it. The best way I saw to achieve this was committing to a fully alcohol-free (AF) year.
The reviewer finds Doechii’s mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal” to have a unique sound and is excited for her future work.
First time since I got my new “proper” job over a year ago where I’ve felt under pressure and slightly out of my depth. Dreaming of the days all I did was turn up to a quiz/dj night and have fun.

Cultural Diet - January 2025:
A run down of everything I’ve consumed this month. January was long. And busy. And sober.

Nearly made myself cry because I don’t understand how wireless headphones work.
On the train to Newcastle to meet my niece for the very first time 👶🏻. There’s some beautiful views out of the window, Storm Éowyn nowhere to be seen.
Spent the last couple of hours beginning a new Obsidian vault to start fresh and reorganise my notes into something more manageable and future proof. This could take some time (and does it even matter).
